Each year, the Ontario Council of Workers United awards two $1,500 scholarships to union members, their children or grandchildren. Congratulations to this year’s winners, Ramsha Ahmed and Hillary Conway!

Ramsha Ahmed

Ramsha’s father, Shakil Ahmed, is a Workers United member who works at Coppley in Hamilton. Ramsha will be attending McMaster University in the fall to study Medical Radiation Sciences. An active member of her community and student body, she has been volunteering at the Creek Way retirement home and participating in organizations such as Youth in Action. Ramsha has also been a part of her highschool’s Fashion and Design Club, where she knit and sewed clothing for a local clothing bank. Ramsha hopes to one day become a radiation therapist and intends to remain an active member of her community.

Hillary Conway

Hillary will be attending the University of Guelph to study Bio-Medical Sciences in the fall. She hopes to one day attend medical school and open her own practice as a family physician. Hilary was a volunteer at St. Joseph’s Medical Health Care Center for two years and is currently involved with the Big Brothers Big Sistsers of Guelph as a one-on-one mentor, or ‘Big Sister’. She was also a peer coach for a special needs athlete in Guelph’s 2008 Special Olympics. Her father, Randy Conway, is a Workers United member who works at Owen’s Corning in Guelph.
